EASTER EGGS
Easter eggs represent a tradition that has its roots in antiquity, given that already in the Ancient World, the egg was considered a sacred object with a strong evocative meaning, as the guardian of a new life.
With the advent of Christianity, the egg was then associated with the Easter festival, to celebrate the rebirth of Jesus Christ, as a symbol of resurrection and hope in eternal life.
The custom of eating chocolate eggs at Easter instead has its origins in the eighteenth century in France, when the first artisan chocolate egg was invented, commissioned by King Louis XIV, which however consisted of a cocoa cream.
The birth of chocolate eggs in the modern sense, on the other hand, is due to the Swiss François Louis Cailler, who in 1819 invented a special machinery for processing cocoa, which made it possible to transform cocoa into several solid forms, starting from the classic bars, up to the chocolate eggs.
In 1877 the first chocolate egg with surprise was invented by the Russian goldsmith and jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé, and only at a later time it began its marketing, by the hand of the Englishman John Cadbury, who for the first time produced in series the first empty chocolate eggs.
